I AM NOT ASHAMED!
TO ENDURE THE COST OF INTENTIONAL LORDSHIP
(2 Timothy 1:3-18)
What does intentional commitment cost?
- D_____________ yourself to fan what He has ______________.
(vv.3-7)
- D__________ yourself to share what He has ________________.
(vv.8-10)
- D__________ yourself to guard what He has________________.
(vv.11-14)
“Nowhere in Scripture does it ever say a Christian is to make Christ Lord. If you’re a Christian, He is Lord. And it does say, very explicitly in Scripture, that unless you acknowledge that fact that He is Lord, you could never be saved in the first place. …Withholding the Lordship of Christ from someone while giving them the gospel is a complete contradiction. The Bible says that salvation is granted only to those who acknowledge Jesus as Lord and are willing to submit their life to Him. To say that you should never talk about that, that all a person has to do is believe that Jesus died for them doesn’t say at all enough.”
(John MacArthur, Grace to You website sermon)
“Until the will and the affections are brought under the authority of Christ, we have not begun to understand, let alone to accept, His lordship.”
(Elizabeth Elliot, widow of martyred missionary Jim Elliot)
“If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed,
for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. …However, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name.”
(1 Peter 4:14, 16)
